Licensed Psychologist (BSc, MA, PhD) with special interest in Personality, the Social Psychology of Politics and Political Psychology.

I received my Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Essex (U.K.). Using Terror Management Theory (TMT; Greenberg, Pyszczynski and Solomon, 1986), I looked at the way in which reminders of mortality mediate changes in political preference patterns of voting behaviour and adherence to political parties. It has been suggested that both epistemic and existential motives are highly interactive (e.g., Jost, Glaser, Kruglanski, & Sulloway, 2003); therefore, I focused my doctoral research on two particular elements of this model: TMT and its interaction with Need for Cognitive Closure (Kruglanski, A. W., Webster, D. M., & Klem, A., 1993)—that is, the desire to reach a cognitive closure and maintain it permanently. In particular, I concentrate on how this existential threat interacts with an epistemic need for closure by activating needs for consensus and agreement to, in turn, punish deviants from a perceived generalised political agreement.

My research interests include both the Social Psychology of Politics and Political Behaviour. I am particularly interested in understanding the psychological processes by which people develop, adhere to, and adjust their political loyalties.

Professionally, I serve as special advisor in political psychology to the Office of the President of Mexico, the Mexican Senate, and national political parties advising them on political psychology issues that influence the way these organisations are perceived by and interact with their constituents, individuals and societies at large. I offer customised demographic research, strategic communications advice, and experimental behavioural research to understand public opinion, voting behaviour and adherences to political parties.

As political psychology advisor, I transform experimental behavioural research into political strategies. I remodel complex statistical analysis of public opinion into clear, insightful, and actionable information for the communication between President Peña Nieto and his constituency. Using both experimental and survey-based tools, I examine the psychological mechanisms behind political behaviours (including but not limited to voting, partisanship, party identity, policy, and government approval) in order to foster a thorough understanding of public opinion and the interaction of personality and politics.

I am interested in academic research and consultancy positions.
